Tommaso Bassetti

Sustainable Cities Specialist

Specialist in strategic urban planning and policy, mitigation, climate adaptation and urban climate project preparation and financing. Its core specialities include the engagement, participation and coordination of stakeholder ecosystems at international, national and local levels, with a focus on connecting users with problems and providers with solutions.

About Tommaso

Tommaso is currently leading the UP2030 project within ICATALIST. It plays a key role as part of the project’s Engagement and Visions Working Group, supporting 10 EU cities and beyond with their stakeholder engagement strategies, with the aim of delivering co-created visions for cities and neighbourhoods.

In addition to his position at ICATALIST, Tommaso is a senior consultant to the Central Asia Centre of the Cities Climate Finance Leadership Alliance (CCFLA) of Climate Policy Initiatives, as well as Levante CPI, an Italian urban climate impact investment company. Tommaso holds an MA in Planning, Growth and Regeneration from the University of Cambridge and a BA in Geography and Politics from the University College Utrecht.

Professionally, Tommaso spent a total of three years working for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), among others, leading a programme (UNDA 12th tranche) supporting cities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia to identify, develop and finance climate infrastructure projects. Since 2018, Tommaso has also collaborated with organisations such as C40 Cities Finance Facility, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Investment Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, GIZ, among others. He has been the lead author of several publications for the United Nations and C40 Cities Finance Facility.

Today, its main objective is to help local governments identify, develop and finance green infrastructure projects at scale in an inclusive manner.
