NAIAD aims to operationalise “Natural Assurance Schemes”, defined as a range of schemes to internalise the insurance value of river systems.

About the project

The NAIAD project aims to operationalise the insurance value of ecosystems for water-related risk mitigation by developing and testing concepts, tools and applications in 9 demonstration sites across Europe under the common concept of Nature Based Solutions (NBS).

The core of the project is the physical and socio-economic analysis of the demonstration sites, supported with complex modelling and forecasting activities, which, in cooperation with the insurance sector, will strive to propose NBS as a technically sound and financially viable option for investors at local and higher levels and especially for the insurance sector.

Services

  1. Develop concrete approaches to nature-based solutions (NBS) in response to flood and drought risks in 9 demonstration sites across the EU.

  2. Deliver replicable methods for implementation.

  3. Work on the development of innovative financial instruments and business models to support their implementation.

  4. Contribute to academic knowledge on BNS planning, increase the capacity of policy makers to integrate BNS into development planning and contribute to general awareness of the need for BNS and the socio-economic opportunities that arise with its implementation at local, regional or EU level.

This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 730497.
