Problem definition

Adaptation to climate change requires a holistic approach to adjust, prepare and adapt to the new conditions created by climate change. Given that climate change is complex and interconnected with other global challenges, such as food security, water scarcity, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation, it is insufficient to use traditional approaches to innovation that focus on only one aspect of the problem.

Solution

ARSINOE develops a methodological framework that combines a System Innovation Approach with the Climate Innovation Window to create an innovation ecosystem that generates solutions that contribute to climate resilience.

Services

Created in the Horizon 2020 BRIGAID project as a showcase for innovations to increase resilience to climate events.

  • Introduction of a set of machine learning approaches to address and predict challenges;
  • Providing regional resilience innovation packages through the Climate Innovation Window platform and its extension; set up in the Horizon 2020 BRIGAID project as a “showcase” for innovations to increase resilience to climate events.
  • Developing VR experiences to elicit citizens’ preferences for climate resilient adaptation interventions.

“Climate change still seems to be perceived as something far off in the future. This perception may be contributing to incomplete awareness, limited understanding and low participation of citizens in climate adaptation”
