The digitalisation of the agricultural sector is progressing unevenly across countries, with differences in strategies, capabilities and technology uptake. The lack of alignment and shared knowledge limits international cooperation and hinders the ability to leverage key synergies for an effective and sustainable digital transition.
The project, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Spain, analyzed the digitalization strategies and key initiatives of the agri-food sectors in Spain and the Netherlands, exploring synergies and opportunities for cooperation and collaboration in the development and implementation of agricultural digitalization agendas for both countries.
The result is a review of key policies, action plans, and scientific literature, as well as an analysis of perspectives through 43 interviews with industry experts. We thus supported the work of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Spain, specifically the Office of Agriculture, Nature and Food, to understand the opportunities for collaboration and the progress in digitalization of the agri-food sector in Spain, the Netherlands, and the European Union. The report addresses topics such as the development of cutting-edge technologies, the training and support needs of the agricultural sector, strategic territorial autonomy, and collaboration in Spain between academic, public, and private sectors.
