In the IMPLUVIUM 2.0 project, born from the previous IMPLUVIUM 1.0, a water collection system is proposed for a specific centre in the city of Valladolid, the El Principito Infant Education School (EEI), in order to take advantage of all rainwater, store it for later reuse and mitigate the risk of flooding.
In order to achieve this purpose, a series of actions were proposed to achieve the final objective of the project: Collect-reuse.
Numerous factors were taken into account in the selection of this centre: The age of the users, the size of the centre, the excessive heat during the summer months, waterlogging problems, etc.
The solution chosen to organise this project consisted of the design of three water collection systems, each depending on its location. The water collected in the three systems would be unified in a new horizontal underground rainwater drainage network, which would be connected to a biofilter and subsequently stored in a buried tank, or cistern, for subsequent reuse in an irrigation system, with which the water would be distributed throughout the garden areas and the orchard.
The third system comes under the slogan “Playing awareness”, with this system a design was created that aimed to give image and uniqueness to the project, adapting to the end users who are the children of this centre. For this purpose, 4 independent structures were designed to form a playful and educational unit, which in turn achieves the objective of collecting rainwater for reuse. The aim of this intervention was to make children feel part of the project, explaining in a simple way and as a game, the importance of not wasting water and that every drop counts. The aim of these modules was also to ensure that both children and teachers would no longer see the rain as an enemy, providing them with a space where they could make the most of rainy days.
