To address challenges such as climate change and ecosystem degradation, we need to transform our cities into sustainable systems using a holistic and integrated approach. A growing element in achieving this adaptation is the implementation of nature-based measures (NBM).
The VallaCambio game is born from a project to promote circular economy and eco-innovation based in the municipality of Valladolid. It consists of the design and implementation of a game that links the concept of circular economy to the green economy in the city of Valladolid, so that nature-based solutions can be implemented to achieve a circular economy.
The aim is to raise awareness of how investments in different infrastructures through NBS (green, blue and hybrid) will help the city to become more resilient to climate change. It will also teach them about the benefits of the NBS for both the mitigation of damage to their investments and the quality of life in the city.
All players must work together and compete to meet their individually assigned objectives by implementing nature-based measures (MbN) to prevent climate emergencies that threaten the city.
This game could be used in secondary schools, vocational training centres, university courses and civic centres in order to educate the younger population and citizens in general about the concept of circular economy in the municipality of Valladolid. It will also be available to the general public in case they want to learn about the values of the game, as a way to reach a larger portion of the public.
ICATALIST was in charge of the design and implementation of the game in collaboration with AQUAVAL.
